Breathe the essence of the Serra de Tramuntana
Places with soul and full of life
The majestic mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana are the perfect setting to host the most prominent sacred and cult place in Mallorca. Here, between its wild nature, its changing colors and its purest essence, stands the Santuari Hospedería de LLuc, touched by its energies and silences that say it all.
The Serra de Tramuntana is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the category of Cultural Landscape. It is a meeting point for people with all kinds of motivations: go on excursions, take a walk, enjoy the unique landscape, disconnect from day to day ... In LLuc, our house, one can find what one is searching for. Breathing nature and tranquility can make everything look different.
The Serra de Tramuntana includes 20 municipalities and stretches for approximately 90 km, from Andratx in the southwestern part, to Cap de Formentor in the far north.
Along the way are the emblematic Gorg Blau and Cúber reservoirs, the spectacular Torrent de Pareis and the soaring peaks of Puig Major, Teix, Massanella and Tomir. The landscape is dominated by old Mallorcan “possessions” and dry stone walls (“marges”), as well as ancient, olive groves. Visiting the Serra de Tramuntana and arriving at our Santuari is part of one of the stages of the so-called “Ruta de la Pedra en Sec”, of the GR 221, one of the most beautiful that can be done, ideal for lovers of the nature and sport.
GR 221
The landscape shaped by man, our heritage
The largest long-distance trail in the Balearic Islands, the “Ruta de Pedra en Sec” (GR221), is an 8-stage route that runs from Andratx to Pollença, offering hikers a varied and authentic experience between mountains and trails...
and the opportunity to pass through the old cobbled paths that once linked the mountain communities. We highlight some of the most beautiful towns in the Tramuntana, included in the GR 221 and through which Lluc can be reached in different stages and hiking routes:

Valldemossa
Valldemossa is a picturesque town that preserves the pure essence of Mallorca and has a special charm. It is essential to visit the Royal Charterhouse, where Chopin and Geroges Sand stayed, get lost in its cobbled streets and taste the exquisite and popular "potato cocas". Likewise, it is fascinating to walk the Camí de l'Arxiduc
a whole work of engineering and beauty, created by Archduke Luís Salvador of Austria, who had it built solely to enjoy the impressive landscape from the cliffs, with the imposing rock of Sa Foradada and the sea as protagonists.

Deià
Deià is a classic town with a Mediterranean aroma and a relaxed atmosphere. Its quiet surroundings make it the ideal option to disconnect as much as possible in the middle of a unique natural setting. The cemetery is one of its most special places, since it is located in the highest area of the town
and has spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. In it lie some of the painters, musicians and poets who lived in the place, including Robert Graves, whose house was equipped to be visited as a museum.

Escorca
In the mountains of Escorca you can enjoy beautiful landscapes of oaks trees, fountains and places as impressive as the Torrent de Pareis or Sa Calobra. There are also the Cúber and Gorg Blau reservoirs, which supply water to the city of Palma. This municipality is home to the highest peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana,
headed by the Puig Major (1445 m), which on the coldest days of winter often turn white due to snow. Our house, the Santuari de Lluc, is located here, establishing itself as the spiritual center of the island, a meeting point for pilgrims, hikers and visitors.

Sóller
For its part, Sóller is a town full of beauty and tradition, located in the middle of a “valley of oranges”, known as “valley of gold”, and it is one of the most beautiful in Mallorca. The most romantic way to get to Sóller from Palma is on the old wooden train that crosses mountains, on a fascinating and charming journey.
Once there, you can take the iconic tram, which rattles from the centre of town to the Port of Sóller, amidst palm trees and orange groves and with the blue sea as a backdrop.
