L'Acolliment

In 1984, as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the coronation of the Virgin, Bishop Teodor Úbeda ordered the construction of the "Acolliment del Centenari" or "Centenary Meeting Place" where up to 4000 people could attend religious, cultural or recreational events. The architect was Sebastià Gamundi and the project was financed in equal parts by the government of the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca, La Caixa and Sa Nostra. Later work was carried out to improve the construction, including a stone altarpiece, cladding the iron columns with stone and planting trees to reduce the environmental impact of the building.

With the celebration of the 125th celebration of the Coronation, Bishop Jesús Murgui called for a second stage of construction (with stone walls, reinforcement of the structure to withstand up to metre of snow, separation of the altar from the rest of the area, etc). The Foundation of the Sanctuary of Lluc was interested in undertaking the work but it has been postponed due to its high cost and the economic crisis that has seen a considerable cutback in subventions.
